Hey everybody, I'm having some trouble with my 1964 1010 starting, when I start it seems like it's only running on 2 cylinders and then after about 10 seconds the other cylinders come on line and it runs fine. It's only been doing that for the last week.
In February of this year All new plugs, plug wires, points and distributor cap were installed by a John Deere Dealership but had no problems until this week.

  • I had a 52 Ford Pick-up, with a flat head V8, that had the same problem. I finally found the problem was a hairline crack in the distributer cap which caused a small amount of condensation to build up under the cap. Once I put a new cap on, the problem was solved.

  • @andypawelski Yeah come to find out we have a stuck float in the carb.

  • real tractors only need 2 cylinders

  • @dalekrueger LOL thats true, but i would not give up this 1010 for anything.

  • with a Gravity feed Carborator the vacum goes up after it's running. they don't have a pump on the Carborator like the old Cars did. Look at the vent tube on top of the Tank, Take the Gas Cap off and using a piece of Vacume hose they use on cars and see if you can n blow thru the tube.

  • @blackjackhp I'll give this a try tonight and see if i can find out anything, on a side note this only happens when the engine is cold, after it runs and warms up the starts fine for he rest of the day.

  • You know when the CO. built the John Deere Tractor 1010 1963 , did they ever think about the exhaust muffler going right in there face and lungs.....who ever did this was not to smart.

  • I did Learn that it is fun shooting snakes from the john deere as it stir's them up once and a while. I was using a 38 Snub nose. My son said I should Use a Garden Hoaw but these are skinny snakes about 7 inches long and thin bodyied. I explaind it was Better Target Practice because they move LOL. I started shooting them from the back to the front on the body. they keep wiggling so you can shoot one 3 or 4 Times. LOL I hate snakes

  • How is it going. I'm working on a carb issue and replacing some of the wirring harness

  • @blackjackhp Do this after the tank is Empty

  • As I think About it. If it were Me. I would turn the gas shut off Valve behind the sediment bowl off. then Disconnect the Fuel Hose and drain the Gas out into a fuel Can drain all the gas out of the tank. get gas from a differant sorce and refill the tank with two or three gallon's of gas enough to cause a down presure on the fuel in the tank. try running it for ten or fifteen minutes to get all the old gas out of the Carb and see if it still has the same problem.
