Old tractors are beautiful... but it must have been very impractical to have the front wheel(s) in the middle like that.. odd design if you ask me! I have to serch the archives, can't gurantee I'm able to do a response.. :)

it is referred to as a "row crop" to be used to cultivate and harvest crops grown in rows such as corn. These days all tractors are with wide front wheel design. Better for safe operations on hill sides. Parts 2 and 3 are now up (3 is loading as I write this :)

Ok, it's a corny design then! :) Now I'll go check the other parts.. :)

it comes from the time when corn was planted in rows so the ppl shucking the corn could get to the stuff with ease and so it continues to this day to be planted in rows. I drove a Farmall with a mounted 2 row picker (surrounded the tractor) and now combines do about 14 rows at once.
