Swedish Medical Center has produced a month-long web series to raise awareness about hearing loss and cochlear implants. This video sums up the inspiration for the web series, as Royal Hansen, a Fairbanks, AK resident, discusses his difficult journey with finding information about treatment options for his deafness while being unable to hear or use the phone when seeking information.

His daughter, who also suffers from hearing loss, talks about the first time her father understood her (after receiving his implant) and what it felt like.

On Oct. 2 Swedish will live Tweet (from @Swedish) and live-Instagram a cochlear implant surgery to raise awareness. Swedish will also host a live-chat with the surgeon and members of the hearing loss community on Oct. 10, in which members of the community can log in and ask any questions they may have.
