This is a test of running ubuntu (lite) on a nook tablet. This video was done by loglud, with thanks to AdamOutler for the code and information on building... This could not have been accomplished without him.

  • what is this Sorcery?!?!?!?!? awesome

  • I don't even own the book tablet but I couldn't pull myself away from the screen. Very interesting.

    Great work to you all.

  • so any updates on this? i try to follow the nook tablet xda forum but i havent seen anything new? u guys still kicking ?

  • It isn't a real install of Ubuntu the way a normal install would occur. Using VNC is corny, even though I know it has been done this way before. I've seen many phones demo'd in the same way. I consider it as always to be fake. Erase android and install it for real for me to be convinced.

  • @jdblaich He is running the complete Ubuntu environment on top of the Android kernel on the Nook using chroot. Android will not give up control of the screen to Ubuntu, but you can use an Android VNC app to connect to it and use it all on the Nook. Both operating systems are technically running at once on the tablet.

  • Did he just use Virtualbox on Windows to boot Ubuntu so he could run VNC into Android running VNC into Ubuntu under chroot?

  • That is NOT running on the tablet. He's using a VNC client/server model. That's not Ubuntu.

  • This is amazing, keep it up guys

  • Excellent - this could be a reason to get one of these. I'm particularly interested in how they run graphics software such as GIMP or InkScape.

One minor point: Ubuntu is an African (Bantu) word, pronounced like "ooboontoo" but with a shorter "oo". Similar to Star Trek's Uhura. Instant geek cred if you get it right!

  • Why don't you install Lubuntu??
