SIC Trading has released OSG-1000, the world's first instrument capable of providing non-invasive qualitative assessment of pearls which was developed by the Chinese company Moptim Imaging Technique.

The OSG-1000 employs an advanced optical technology which is a technology that can also be applied to medical equipments, is known as optical coherence tomography (OCT), OCT is superior to x-ray technology in that it is capable of scientifically assessing the conditions of the pearl's coil. It can be used to assess the quality of the pearl in a variety of situations used to determine the cultivation conditions of pearl farms, at shipping inspections, and retail shops. Retailers can use the OSG-1000 to demonstrate the quality of a pearl as well as authenticate its genuineness. Moreover, the OSG-1000 makes it possible to see clearly the optical transparency of jade and other precious gems to determine the gem quality.

This instrument is easy to use, and provides a measurement in just 1 to 2 seconds. Since the OSG-1000 does not use radiation, it can be used safely as there is no chance of damaging the pearl.
