It's been nearly two decades since compulsory superannuation was introduced, giving rise to the idea that we might have an adequate income in retirement. In 1992, the amount employers had to contribute to their workers' super accounts was set at 3% of their wages. By 2002, that super guarantee had increased to 9%. But most experts agree even this won't be enough to give most people the retirement they expect. A long-time advocate of lifting the compulsory levy to 15% is the former prime minister and architect of Australia's compulsory superannuation system, Paul Keating.

  • I miss his mind and his arrogance. The fact about his arrogance: Keating never hid his arrogance where other politicians hide theirs. We always knew what we got. No BS with PK. The personality type required to be a politician, especially a successful one, is predisposed to arrogance. What do we think drives them to implement their policy both in public and in their own party. The point is that swinging voters will most times vote for the 'nice person' instead of the one with the ability.

  • This plan was recently implemented by the Government - just as Keating suggested - 0.5% per year for six years from 2013 to 2019. Rudd was obviously listening.

  • @ausinous As I thought you couldn't come up with anything that Keating did to better Australia. So you resort to insult. That's ok with me. You just proved my point and I thank you for that. As for hating Muslim. I only hate radical islamist as I do with any extremeist group, The radical Islamist are the greatest threat to the world peace we have known in many years. As far as Homosexuals are concerned I have many gay friends. A troll. Turd you came looking for me. LMAO at you!

  • @ellasamd Having read all the comments on this video and seen your profile image, I have come to the conclusion that you are just a troll. A bored fat loner seeking attention. You are probably a pimple faced fat virgin who failed at every aspects of life. The only human interaction you can muster is through your keyboards. Your ultimate goals are to incite hatred between mainstream Australia and towards Muslims and homosexuals. Get a life. If you can't score, perhaps you're the problem.

  • @ausinous i love his wit.. And I agree he was a great Politician. But all that means is bullshit artist. But write down ten things he did for this country that made it a better one. Or five if your struggling to make 10. He is gay and I dont care. As I said. I didint like the lie he was hetro.

  • @ellasamd We do not give a fuck who you vote for. For you not to have recognized what Keating has done for this country, I can only assume that you are either new to Australia or that you are an 'intellectual rust bucket'. If PK is 'Gay', then I must be 'Gay' too because I love this guy.

  • @mistersmith6000 I'm in the same boat. If you are a non resident Australian having worked overseas for more than 2 years, you should'nt have to pay tax in Australia. I would keep the tax savings and set some aside in an investment of my own choice. It has got to be a better option than letting a fund manager wither it away in these uncertain global financial times.

  • @brismannorth I just agreed with my previous comment without realising it was mine haha...now that's arrogance!!! Anyway, after reading some of the comments on here regarding sexuality, 'can't hold a marriage together' and the look of a person's daughter, I can see that the lowest common denominator has come out from under their incestuous rock. And that's a good thing, they probably need a good dose of sunshine, but be sun smart you rock dwellers and get some 30+ on those sensitive red necks.

  • @brismannorth Very well said, no BS with PK, his intellect was read as arrogance, that, is what he played on... he knew he knew more then those asking..... He always left a bitter sweet taste, but his MIND was alluring, when he speaks i feel compelled to listen. A rare cat is PK....

  • This parasite brings back bad, bad, memories. A common garden variety grub who couldn't hold a marriage together let alone a country.

  • economists has warned a critical point will be reached in 15 years when there will be more people withdrawing cash from super funds than workers contributing to them. That can only possibly occur IF the Government has already stolen my sup? if ive already paid into it, it still SHOULD be there! but hay we all no governments are the biggest thieves! so it will be a problem. or it could be a good excuse to raise taxes to 15% meaning with my income tax at 33% plus my supp at 15% would mean 48% tax!

  • I'm living overseas in my mid-40s. I have no super when I go back to Australia. Anyone, got a good idea regarding this? Yes, I have a job, yes, I wanna go back to Australia one day
