An interfaith multicultural Martin Luther King Day in Augusta, GA
NBC26 News Reporter Bridgett Williams has the story about the celebration of the 2008 Martin Luther King Day in Augusta, Georgia at the Greene Street Presbyterian Church.

It would have been the famous civil rights legend's 79th birthday and 40 years since his assassination on April 4, 1968.

Dr. King would have been proud:

It was an interfaith racially-mixed crowd -- who all sang songs, smiled and listened to inspirational sermons.

The Augusta Progressive Religious Coalition hopes that all races will interact more and create positive projects and events for the community.

Among those on hand were Rabbi Robert Klensin of the Congregation Children of Israel Jewish Temple, Keynote speaker Mike McCullen, the Tabernacle Baptist Church Praise Team and coalition member/event co-organizer Debbi Brooks.

We thank Ms. Williams of WAGT TV-26 in Augusta for providing a copy of this story from January 15, 2008.

Mr. Dicks has created the "Claiming A Street Named King" project to get community involvement and business economic development to repair the boulevards that are named for Martin Luther King.

Starting in Augusta and Athens, Rev. Dicks hope the project will spread across the U.S. and even the world.

Inside the 100 plus year old Green Street Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Georgia, about 200 people celebrated the life of the late Martin Luther King, Jr.

It was an interfaith racially mixed crowd -- who all sang songs and listened to inspirational sermons.

The Progressive Religious Coalition is an important group bringing together people of all backgrounds in Augusta, GA and elsewhere.
