A tour of a private "vanilla" Minecraft server hosted by me for family and close friends. This video was taken to show the game to others interested in it. As the world progresses, more videos may be taken, just for fun.

Notes:

The unfinished structure you see on the top of the first base, is Simon Belmont, from Castlevania. You will notice an "8-Bit" theme to many of the projects, hence the name of the server.

The skeleton monster farm was built off a dungeon and supplies everyone with a nearly unlimited supply of arrows and bone. There are three such skeleton monster farms running, as well as a zombie and a spider.

There are also a couple standard monster and animal farms running in various locations.

The Dragon you see in the video is probably the most complex single project so far, and it was done by one person. For many projects though, team work is the more common theme.

The tall "shield" is from Zelda and if you look carefully, you may see a Space Invader outside the Sand Castle and Pyramid on the beach.

Also, you can not theme a world on old school gaming and not include Pac-Man.

The "sculpture garden" is primarily a team effort between two people, with others helping supply the materials. It contains Kirby, a red and green mushroom from Super Mario Bros, as well as a coin and fire flower from Super Mario Bros, the Companion Cube from Portal, and a Mothers Day rose made for, well, Mothers Day.

A future project may include MegaMan.

Not shown in this video, we dug a 16x16 block hole right down to bedrock, hence a source for a good quantity of the cobblestone you see . We all also run animal farms to take advantage of night spawn rates and can harvest the large quantities of wool needed.

Sadly, we must "cheat" by using the server "give" command to obtain materials that you would otherwise gather from the Nether World, since as of the time of this video, it was not accessible in multiplayer running a vanilla server.

About the server:

This "offline" server was setup for family and friends to play the game and not have to worry about the "grief" often associated with many public servers. Firewall and white list protected, it gives them a place to simply play and enjoy the game. Currently there are 9 active family members and friends playing.

The server runs "vanilla", meaning no server-side mods, save for security. However everyone runs their own texture packs. A few run "HD" (High Definition) (128x128 or 256x256) packs, the rest custom "SD" (Standard Definition) (16x16) ones.

I choose to not run patch my client to HD because I like the original 16x16 texture look. I like the "old school" look and feel to it. The popular HD packs do look very good, it's just not something I am interested in at this time.

I, as with many of the others playing, are running our own custom variations of " The Painterly Pack". This is my favorite "SD" pack for the game my second being the "Borderlands" pack. So this video is my view of the world.
