Brilliant! I'm the lead french horn from mount vernon's class of 2009. It is my second instrument, however, so I am not as good at it.

I'm glad someone in MV has looked at this. I was principal horn in 68 but didn't have a clue what I was doing. In all the incompetence I was the least incompetent : ) I was there in 67 when they bought their first 2 double horns, the directors didn't have a clue how to play them, had to take lessons at Uof E. Still trying to understand why the current uniforms are not in the school colors. Are Maroon and Grey still the colors?

The colors are still maroon and grey. The reason we do not march the colors is because of the increased competitiveness of our program. Judges did not like the maroon sequence sash as it distracted from our strong lower body style. We gave up the bit of color, but we represent Mt. Vernon very strongly. Any high school in the state could tell you that we have a strong program with committed students. I feel in the same boat as you did when it comes to the horn. I'm not great by any standard.
