Thank you so much for posting this! Peggy Fleming's 1968 Gold Medal winning performance was the first time I remember seeing figure skating (I had just turned 4 years old the previous November) and I developed a huge crush on her that I still have. (I did get to meet her twice, once at Countryside Mall in Clearwater, FL back in 1991 & once here in Atlanta in Dec. 2001 -- at Centennial Olympic Park -- when she was the first torch bearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.)

@maxfreiermuth plus she was awarded first place (Gold) by all of the judges (Even the Russians).such a nice lady

@Twisterjoe You are soooo right. The jumpers of today are amusing, but elicit in me none of what Peggy Fleming's grace on ice did. Not even comparable. Today's skaters must have taken ballet at some point, but you'd never know it.

us figure skating championships will be in San Jose in 2012 as they were in 1996.

I just met Peggy Fleming at the John Madden Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fund raiser in Pleasanton Ca. over the weekend. Shes now 63 years old and I might say, looking pretty good. Shes extremely kind and loves chatting with fans. She stood and spoke with us for 15 mins after the auction..then had no issues having her photo taken with us both, and with the many others that were there. It was an honor to meet her.

Peggy Fleming's program was beautiful! Its always makes me very nostalgic to remember that she won the only gold medal the U.S. recieved in the Grenoble games. Beyond being an amazing skater we should remember that she represented the entire United States via her preformance and should be respected as an athlete that made many people proud to be Americans.

Amazing how effortlessly it seems she moves on the ice. It's captivating to watch. Ithink this is beautiful.
All sport has evolved and exceeded their pioneers - every human endeavor does that. Give Peggy her props! These people were AMATEUR champions -an extinct species - They didn't have the computer aided training, scientifically balanced diets, supplements, focused kinetic and isometric training....etc...Think about it! Today, we have high school track athletes who would outrun and out throw Jim Thorpe and Jesse Owens. Does that mean we shouldn't respect their accomplishments? OF COURSE NOT!
