  • This is called Dance of the Goblins by Bazzini. Ronde des Lutins I think. this dude is so freakin awesome, its so hard to sound good on this piece.

  • Catherine O'Hara as Joan Crawford in "Humoresque" -- how funny! Eugene Fodor, tragic genius, R.I.P.

  • I saw this SCTV episode when I was about ten. I was already playing double bass at the time. It inspired me to get my master degree in music. Now I work in IT. DAMN YOU Eugene Fodor!

  • @geigenmarie OK, after turning up the volume I think I heard that note played very slightly flat. In filming this segment he probably did not get much of a chance to do any editing. The reason Heifetz never recorded any of the Paganini concerti was because everything was recorded live back then & he was always afraid of playing a note or two slightly out of tune in which he couldn't have it corrected. He had quite a reputation to uphold, as some believed he was incapable of playing a wrong note.

  • @geigenmarie Every virtuoso has a special skill in which they become famous for. Fodor had 3: down bow staccato, left hand pizzicato, & flawless intonation. Although my ears are not anything like Mozart's, I could not detect a single note even slightly out of tune. Then again, I just got done listening to one of Michael Hegeman's YT videos, so my ears might be slightly out of adjustment.

Congratulations on your recent tour. I'm very proud of you!

  • RIP Gene.....

  • The "film" was called "New York Rhapsody", about a tenement kid, who becomes a violin virtuoso, then goes into moral freefall with Joan Crawford. Sadly, it seemed to reflect his own real life.

  • a brilliant performer and gorgeous man - a shame that he couldn't handle the fame. RIP Mr. Fodor.
