Tucson is one of my favorite cities, anywhere. I know part of it is the climate - desert, but not quite as brutal as Palm Springs, Phoenix, or Las Vegas. Another part is the amazing surrounding Sonoran Desert, and how it wends its way through much of the city by accident or intent.

But just as importantly is that fact that it's composed of several wildly different facets - Sunbelt retiree magnet/boomtown; university town; miltitary town; and - last but not least - ambisexual, granola/hipster paradise. These folks have somehow learned to get along - more or less - with each other, and that's no small thing.

  • Tucson is the only city i've seen that uses night speed limit signs on city streets and city roads, mainly on the east side of Tucson. Texas does this state wide only on rural highways, never in urban areas, provided the speed limit is 70 mph ( or higher nowadays in parts of west and south Texas)
