Over the duration of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston's group exhibition Hand+Made: The Performative Impulse in Art and Craft, artist Sheila Pepe invited the audience to help unravel her site-specific installation Common Sense II (2010), a sculpture made of crocheted yarn. This video documents an evening of "Crochet and Cocktails" in which museum visitors enjoyed a specialty cocktail as they converted Pepe's artwork into their own functional pieces: mittens, potholders, scarves, etc. Pepe was one of 19 artists whose work was featured in the exhibition. Hand+Made: The Performative Impulse in Art and Craft, curated by CAMH curator Valerie Cassel Oliver, explored the innovative means by which artists continue to expand the traditional boundaries of art and craft. Through the integration of performance, the artists featured in the exhibition have broadened the context of craft for contemporary times. The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston presented sculptural objects, environments, and site-specific installations along with photography and video, documenting performances, as well as a series of live performance events.
