Because Native Americans experience more risk factors, like poverty and historical trauma, they are particularly vulnerable to high rates of suicide, substance abuse, and other issues associated with mental illness.

Elly Stout, a Project Director at the Education Development Center Inc., works with tribes to address suicide and related problems through programs that draw on their culture and history to promote mental health.

Join her to learn more about these strategies at The Sixth World Conference on the Promotion of Mental Health and Prevention of Mental and Behavioral Disorders in Washington, DC on November 17-19, 2010.
