No matter where you live, most Americans can eat fish every day. But where does that fish come from? The ocean, a river? Most likely it was grown on a fish farm in a foreign country. And although this is big business globally, it has been illegal to farm fish in United States federal waters-- until now.

The idea of putting fish farms in the Gulf of Mexico is not a new one. Yet the issue became highly controversial when a plan was being developed to make this a reality. Farming Our Seas looks at the environmental and cultural implications of the possibility of putting fish farms in the Gulf of Mexico.

How will it affect local fishermen who have been in the business for decades? And what impact will it have on the Gulf of Mexico, a public resource? Farming Our Seas was filmed in July of 2009 in southern Louisiana and Mississippi during the peak of this controversy.
