Also, since I think you said you haven't played the full release version of the game until now, regarding the pumpkins: you can destroy them and get seeds for a pumpkin farm. Endless Jack-O'Laterns!

I think the spider eyes are used in potion making. I don't remember them being in any good potions though.

Regarding needing a Diamond Pick for obsidian, brian: You don't need one. If you have a bucket, you can build an obsidian mold out of any non-flammable material you like. Just put the blocks in a plus-sign shape with the center missing (and a block under the hole if you wanna prevent leaks,) put the lava there, then place some water on top of it. You'll get obsidian in a place you want without a Diamond Pick. You still can't mine it, but it lets you access the Nether without said tool.

@MilleniumJester I planted a couple just to see if they would grow inside... but I think the cieling is too close for it to occur. I will eventually be remodeling the whole area, after I get some materials from cave diving.
