  • Good to hear Tetleys voice again - He used to vist my father often - I used to go on to his boat whilst it was in preparation for the race - At the age of eight I would sit inside with him and his girlfriend Eve who I had a crush on.Ha! My father was a friend and after the circumnavigation he did a slide show and narration in his basement for just me and my father. His death was a shock

  • That a lovely story. I have much respect for Nigel Tetley as do the other other competitors in the race.

Loick Fougeron and Bernard Moitessier got to know him very well whist they were preparing there boats together. They were very fond of him. Do you have any of those photos?

I made this film 8 years ago, I'd still like to see a full lenght film made. I know about "deep water" but I live in Australia now and it hasn't been released here. Cheers Tim

  • wow.... some of you people sound pationate about what occured in this race. Try sounding more inteligent. Knox congrats, moitessier anyone who wants to know why he abandoned the race read the long way. Moitessier showed true passion for what he was doing and also gave his competitors and friends the upmost respect. try to make friends with the gods you wont regret it.

  • @tkatim. I recommend Chris Eakin's excellent 2009 book A Race Too Far - Tetley's widow Eve was extensively interviewed and it covers all the Golden Globe entrants. IMO too much attention has been paid to Crowhurst (and the re-casting of him as a some kind of philosopher-hero is also IMO a bit sickening) atthe expense of the fascinating- and in this case also tragic - stories of the others.

  • RIP Nigel Tetley. The overwhelming sympathy that Crowhurst now seems to get has completely obscured not only Tetley's extraordinary achievement but also his tragic death (the details of which are in Chris Eakin's excellent 2009 book A Race Too Far).

  • You clearly know nothing. The world disagrees with you.

From wikipedia's entry on Moitessier, which I trust more than a cheese eating internet surrender monkey:

"Although Moitessier stood a very good chance of winning, he abandoned his effort seven months into the race" "Sir Robin Knox-Johnston went on to both win the race and become the first man to circumnavigate the globe alone without stopping".

You're just upset about the Battle of Trafalgar. And Waterloo and Agincourt.

  • What kind of dreaded sea is that at 2:27 and counting??? It looks like a damn river rapid!!!

  • You have a big mouth. You throw insults around like it is no problem. Calling someone's mother out is not proper. If I ever meet you in person, you will remember me.

  • He's from Anguilla, and hes a predujiced piece of shit; if anyone is a nazi, its him.

  • unlike most of the contributers I know Knox, having been the Personnel officer who promoted him to Chief Officer in BI. This was between bringing Suhaili back from India and his first circumnavigation. He would have failed if he was less single-minded, but I am sure that he is not a liar.

  • Tubelogin, are you aware how silly and childish you sound? Like an angry, proud child. Your statements are not truths— they are not even truths in your own mind. They are just some thoughts, passing around like bits of plankton in the water. And rather less valuable than plankton, as well.
