I think it's pretty cool. They're making great progress and it might actually be done by 2012. Of course, it would have been better to put the train out to the foothills industrial park and the se but hey, political power has its perk (Bronco lives in the SW).

@garycalgary Lets face it Calgary goverment does not care about education. If they did they would not be destroying all of these schools.
I see more schools being knocked down, than schools being built. Especially focusing on trade schools with out those so many kids are screwed.

i wonder if the reason why they put it underground is because people west of christie park were upset about the noise the lrt would make
and i don't see why they need to demolish ernest manning that's just a complete waste
So, is this the final plan. Is this that they are going to go ahead with as of today?

Pretty much. Apparently, the only major point they are still debating is the crossing at 45th St. & 17th Ave. Many of the local residents (I'm one of them) feel that the tunnel along 17th Ave. should continue, so that the train will run under 45th St. This will permit EMS vehicles to turn south on 45th, and have immediate access to the areas south of 17th Ave.

Interesting. The trenching at the end of the route came as a surprise to me, as well. The guy at the information session said it was so they could get the train under 17th Ave. to the siding on the south side of the street. I also thinks it's a shame they feel the need to knock old schools down. They are on the wrong side of a demographic 'bump' that will undoubtedly come.
