This boss is a recurring figure in the Shin Megami Tensei series who debuted in Shin Megami Tensei II. In DDS2, he's the hardest optional boss you face in a Hard Data.

After a few years of procrastination, I finally decided to finish up my file, mastering every mantra and grinding for a bunch of stat data. In terms of difficulty, Satan's on par with Demi-fiend, although I would say he's more predictable. However, there is a lot of calculation involved: you need to keep track of what number turn it is, how many times you've used Charge, and most importantly, his health.

Part 1: Futility (0:47-3:12)
Part 2: Temptation (3:12-5:12)
Part 3: Retribution (5:12-10:00)

Thanks to Kouli from GameFAQs for his very informative guide on Satan.

  • Do you really need max everything for this fight?

  • @FoShaiZa69 No, but I had a ton of stat data from trying to master every mantra for every character (for sake of completion). Magic is much more useful than Power since it's safer, typically stronger, and raises MP. Agility and Luck, honestly I'm not really sure what they affect. Possibly crit-rates and evasion? The stat boost help, but it's mainly just recommended that the party is all level 99.

  • @koheikyouji I'd say the second game makes everything take twice the time.

First game was so much easier mastering mantras and you had Titanias and shit.

Second games takes so much time to master mantras and even more time to get to the good mantras. I just got to the Airport dungeon after beating the archangels and I still don't have 250k+ Mantras which sucks balls.Good luck wasting 400k for Insatiable and Atma Premium because they do almost nothing.

  • @Soultrigger Ugh....mastering all the mantra must be a pain though?

In DDS1 i was mastering mantra cos i had nothing better to spend money, but so far in the 2nd i only seems to master a mantra every 5 levels or so...

    WHAT GIVES?!

  • noob cheater

  • Even though it looks fucking hard, I think the music should have been darker and there should have been no background, just black with your team and Satan. Despite Satan being an optional boss, it would have been so much cooler had it been like that.

  • i fkin hated this guy sooo much

  • But Satan, Eternal Punishment is a different game entirely!

  • @dec5952 Only if you have them all maxed then retribution is a crap shoot. By leaving Cielo at 98 instead of 99 it automatically makes him the target of it since the lowest magic stat always get's hit with Retribution.

  • @dzsidu It is also a turn killer since light spells don't work on humans so if he were to cast Mahamon Argilla would be shielded and I believe a certain ring has the effect of once a negation or miss happens it kills the rest of the enemy's turns

  • dawww no Satan pointed his finger...

  • satan is real strong but still in my opinion he can never compare to hitoshura.demi fiend is the only boss in my current knowledge of game history that after maxing everything including lvls items n stats and u still got to have extreme luck on ur side to win =.=
