This video features trains at Argo Crossing and Ash Street and Hayford Crossings in Chicago. I was 16 years old at the time the videos were shot and my skills weren't very good so please forgive the camera shaking.

  • Love the old IHB footage! I thought there was still a tower standing at Argo, but I didn't know whether it still operated or not. Argo is East of the river right?

  • Tower was torn down in 1994. And yes, Argo crossing is just east of the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal.

  • SP in chicago WTF never seen that in all my years out there never seen those IC locos before damn and soo line must have been after they took over M road

  • SP was VERY common in Chicago in the early 90's. They purchased a line from St. Louis into the area from either IC or Chicago, Missouri & Western if I remember correctly. They accessed the IHB at Argo from this line and used the IHB to reach BRC's Clearing Yard at Harlem Ave. If you check out my other videos, you will see a boatload of SP units parked at Clearing Yard's engine facilities.

  • what railroads cross at Argo IL Crossing? whats the spped over crossing? and what raio channels are used? and is the tower still open and running?

  • currently the CN (ex-IC, nee-GM&O) main crosses the Indiana Harbor Belt line at Argo. The tower is long gone. I don't have the answers for your other questions.

  • @TBirdSCIL The tower was torched by some kids.I got to walk through it while it was still standing

  • I live for the vintage clips...I'm 23 and I've lived about a mile from the CSX Abbeville Subdivision all of my life. I remember the good ol' days of U-boats on the TOFC trains and the blaring RS5T horns. Not to mention no ditch lights. Awesome clips...thanks so much for posting them.

  • Thanks for the info. Once again, love the old school stuff.

  • Love it! Keep the old school stuff coming!
