gara9100, I too started out with a inexpensive metal detector, one that would not even be worth 70 quid, Keep saving your money and try to get the most out of your current machine by studying the owner's manual and experimenting with it by digging all signals to learn what the detector is telling you. You could have a coin garden to test your detector by planting coins in your back garden (yard) and listening to the signals. Good luck.

thanks for your reply. im not sure about the model number it doesnt have anything on it to tell me just says vlf tresure detector. but yes i am very interested in the hobby . any suggestions on a better model under 300 or around that price range????

Bulldawg, There are a number of good machines in that price range. Most major manufacturers put out good reliable target id machines with decent range. My first decent metal detector was a whites and they still make great machines. Alot of people have their own favorite metal detector maker and have different opinions on the various machines. Join a local club and get to know what machines work well in your local soil.

i have a question... i just got a cheap metal detector from a pawn shop it is an VLF tresure detector from bounty hunter but i dont have any instruction do you know what the depth range is on this model?

Biulldawg, it's hard to answer your questions without a model name or number. But, my experiences with the low end Bounty hunters is that you should be able to detect coins from 1 to 5 inches depending on the soil. For the money, it's a good starter unit. If you're interested in the hobby in a serious way, you will need to get a more advanced metal detector.
