@MrFrankie68 Your welcome and wow not bad!

thanx,
oh yeah my c640 is my favorite lappie
the thing with me is :
i love to buy faulty and incomplete lappies from ebay
under 15 euro, and fixing it. (or not sometimes)
last week, a working toshiba sp6100 for 11 euro!

@MrFrankie68 Oh I see, so if it's running with that chip then that's good but you should consider getting a newer laptop, it's slow, I have that Latitude C series like you have and I use it once and awhile when I want to use WindowsXP on it since I don't feel like partitioning my hard-drive on my new laptop just to install XP under it. But if it does what you need it to do then that's good. :)

see my comment on post#36
i baught a c640 base+mboard with
the same shut off problem desoldered the maxim chip from a screweed
ed D600..the chip is now on the c640 board
and he is running for 24 hrs with no probs
-
i think it's a transistor problem
for the latirude c640/c610 you have tp replace a
voltage chip located at U45 underneath the board
i fiexed several dell c640 's with replacing this very
small chip:
the chip is :
maxim6326
i made my c640 a alive again by resoldering the max-chip from a d600 and
soldered it on my c640..
fan cleaning is no use..you need to replace this chip
