伊東篤宏 （いとう あつひろ） PROFILE

1980年代後半より美術作家として活動を始める。
98年からサウンド・パフォーマンスを開始し、インスタレーションと同素材である蛍光灯を使用した自作音具「オプトロン」を製作。
数々の改良を加えつつ現代美術側からの音あるいは音楽へのアプローチを続けている。
数々の個展やソロ・パフォーマンスのほかに、爆音エクストリーム・オプチカル・ノイズコア・バンド「Optrum」など、いくつかのユニットでも活動中。
2000年より2005年まで東京、代々木でギャラリー/フリー・スペース「Off Site」の音(音楽)と映像関連のイヴェントなどを担当。
2006年6月、Optrumでアルバム「recorded」をUNKNOWNMIX(HEADZ)よりリリース。

※アーティストが使用している楽器は「オプトロン」というアーティストが独自で開発した楽器です。

Yudlugar has it right, just to add that he's also manipulating the electromagnetic field around tube, hence the finger movements.

Thanks for the response! That was what I figured would be the easiest route to produce a signal that wouldn't destroy the pedals. I just wish I could see what switches he's installed to control the actual light.

He has guitar pick-ups attached to the ligth which receive the electromagnetic noise radiated from the light.

Yeah. Look how he's holding it. He's got it entirely by the square casing bit, and then pushes his right finger onto it to make it play/light up.

From what I can tell, he's got a microphone or something that records that quiet humming that fluorescent lightbulbs make. He wired that up through a bunch of effects, etc. And then he has a dimmer switch attached to the lightbulb. (Or it could be one of those new fangled lights that turn on when you poke them hard enough. But it looks like he's just tapping it for musical-beat-sense, etc.)

And then he's got a few more in the background that go on and off when he has a button pushed.
