This song is from my friends family gatherings back in the 1940's, with this one recorded on November 16, 1947 using a portable consumer disc cutter and a blank 8-inch diameter paper backed acetate disc made by the "Audiodisc" company.

These homemade 78's were stored in my friends parents farm house attic for almost 60 years under harsh conditions including, extremes of both summer heat, and winter cold in Minnesota, along with a leaky roof from time to time in between roof repairs over the years.

In spite of the harsh storage conditions, along with the fact these were also recorded on 1947 consumer grade discs and recorded by non-professionals, they actually came out fairly well, and I did some cleanup on the file transfers to lower the noise floor a bit from the very crackly surface due from alligator effect on record surface from age.

The song "Too Fat Polka" was done by numerous famous singers, with "Arthur Godfrey" being one of them.

Transferred to digital using stereo gear in background photo.

Hi Richard, thank you for checking it out! My friend I have known since 3rd grade has these old family recordings his parents had in their attic for almost 60 years, and most were still playable, even after all those years in harsh storage conditions, and home audio recordings were rare in the 40's, even the 50's & 60's they are still rare!!, although tape recording was out by these times, because the mediums were expensive in those days to the average consumer...friends, Lloyd.

  • How cool to have this !!
