Dissolving CO2 in water produces an acidic solution. Here the source of CO2 is solid 'dry ice'. The change in pH is shown by the change in colour of the 'universal indicator'. Increasing levels of CO2 in our atmosphere are making our oceans more acidic.

The steps shown here show the full colour change from quite alkaline solution to acidic ... take some water plus indicator, add some NaOH to increase the pH to about 12, then add the solid CO2. The indicator changes as the solution passes from pH 12 down to below 5.
