To go to Medan, North Sumatra, it is better via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur or Penang or Bangkok. Except Bangkok, the flight will be cheaper and faster than from Jakarta with its bustling city

You don't have to go through Jakarta. Depending on the airline you take, you can go to Medan, North Sumatera, from overseas if you take Singapore Airlines or Malaysian Airlines for instance, without passing through Jakarta. It saves money. Yes, North Sumatera is much safer than other provinces in Indonesia.

it managed by germany-born woman, but now she settled down in Tuktuk (near lake toba) and married bataknese people and having 3 kids...
there's a link there how to travel to Lake Toba. I can tell you, It's safe to travel in Indonesia, first go to Jakarta and direct to North Sumatra then go to Lake Toba. The people also very kind, have a nice trip :)

indonesians, malaysians, filipinos are look alike same as people in southernmost provinces of thailand (yala, pattani, narathiwat). but the pattern of migration began in south taiwan to the philippines to borneo to other indonesian islands to malaysia reaching southern provinces of thailand...we're all from one race malay...but since the spanish colonized the philippines we've become mixed with spanish blood, chinese, etc..i wanna visit lake toba..is it safe to travel in indonesia nowadays?
