Alice Atieno Ogweno is a 34-year-old mother of four children, aged between 12 and 2.5 years; the older ones are in school. Alice is a cereal entrepreneur in addition to other businesses. In addition to her work as a tailor she sells cell-phone airtime minutes for Zain and Safaricom. From a kiosk near her home in Nyamasaria slum, she also sells cereals like maize and rice. She is asking for 10,000 KSH to increase her stock. She says her main challenge is taking care of the 6 orphans left to her by her sister and brother-in-law. She is married to an engineer and heard about K-MET through a friend.P

Alice recently joined the K-MET volunteer Community Health Worker (CHW) group in Kisumu, Kenya. As a CHW she will be trained by K-MET and will begin visiting members of her community who are sick with a variety of illnesses. Her work will include distributing Nutriflour (a vitamin-enriched flour produced by K-MET) to malnourished patients, providing reproductive health education, referring patients to local clinics and hospitals, and providing basic health care.
