  • What is your opinion between installing testing (as you have chosen in this example) vs. installing unstable. Is the unstable branch very difficult to keep updated once installed? Or is breakage a constant battle? And Oh yeah, nice video.

  • I personally run Sid on my desktop, I've never had any huge problems with it, but I don't recommend it for newbies, because packages do occasionally break and there are quite a few buggy/unstable packages..

But if you're experienced with debian, and you don't mind spending 30 minutes sorting out broken packages every now and then, go for that. But having a sid system is more involved compared to Lenny or etch.

  • i tried, but back up for no floppy install (my laptop hasnt cd. YES it is pre-1997 :P). Too sad, used a modified version of slackware 4.0 instead, that is suited for 4mb ram. With swap too it fly. horewer, i can use debian 5 on my desktop, and i can say i am really satisfied, even if i am waiting for the 6 release

  • @lenin25051986

it might not install on a box w/16mb of ram without too much effort, but it will definitely run on 16mb of ram + adequate swap.

  • It will on 18. Also the bit where it's a minimal install is quite important.

  • which version? i know 5.0 wont run on 16mb ram..

  • I was running a minimal install of Debian in VirtualBox with 18 MB of RAM, it was awesome.

  • Hi man i love the vids great work.i need some help.I have a windows server running DHCP,my Domain and LDAP.(roaming profiles for 80 people on my windows sev)

  • will definitely try this my self on vmware later on :)

  • seems really interesting but the audio is horribly low. is there anyway to crank it up without having to blast my speakers.
