  • So whats the Laboratory measured radar cross section of a Lear Jet at ALL angles? How much "glitter" does a sphere create?

The spheres cross section was measured up to .o1 meter.

If your testing a 1 meter object at 250 miles, and you now use a Lear of much greater cross section you would have to extend the visual range of the lear jet to about 10 miles above the earth.

  • pretty cool stuff, but did they really need to target a sphere? wouldn't the lear have made a better target since the awacs is used to target aircraft anyway?

  • Your looking at a 1 sq meter target towed behind a Learjet on a five mile length of kevlar.

It was used to test an AWACS upgrade called RSIP.

  • someone explain to me what the hell I just witnessed?
