  • It is fun, yes. It is also technically perfect, and yet the seem to be as light as air.

  • yeah, the russians really have it all - the right facility, perfect technique, and the most emotion! So this, you mean, it not the original score? La Bayadere is still the most beautiful ballet (in my opinion) regardless of the score, though! Oh, do you know, is the jug attatched somehow to her head or does she really balance it there? I can't imagine her actualy being able to balance it there while doing bourrees!

  • and your opinion is right! La Bayadere is DEFINATELY the most beautiful ballet.

Well, about the jug, there is apparantly no attachment at all (as you can see at 02:05, she takes it off, just like that)

About the score, I am not really sure, but it seems to me, that Nureev brought a few changes here and there (Nykia's dance just before she dies, the music is more powerful, more "Russian" than the original score from Minkus)

  • Waw, lucky you!!! Can you tell me where did you bought it?

  • That's strange, I have it in zone 2..

  • Thanks for the tip. I've checked it out, and, unfortunately, it seems to be available only in zone 1 copy ( I'm in zone 2 :>( )

  • It is released on DVD! It's filmed in 1977 and features Gabriella Komleva, you should be able to find it on Amazon or something like that. It's a wonderful version!

  • Their costumes are helping them get that effect too. i hope i get to wear one like that! they are so pretty!!!!

  • This dance is really fun!!! I get to dance it at my studio in the summer and i am one of the princesses with my little sister!!!!

  • Right you are!

As far as I know, this version of The Bayadère is still "Noureev-flavoured", but there is a lot of talking about going back to the original Minkus score, so there could be some (minor) changes. The Mariinsky Theatre never released this ballet on DVD, wich is a real pity, but a DVD exists from The Opera de Paris. Although it is technically almost perfect, there is a little less emotion (it's my opinion)than the Russian performers. It is still worth having it.
