This is the last scene in the movie, near the end of the end credits. Mulder and Scully wave goodbye to us from their rowboat.

I think it was more Mulder and Scully. Based on their final scene together where Mulder explains the "don't give up" to her, he is finally ready to leave the darkness and really be with Scully. They are leaving that cold and dark place and are now in the bright sunshine. Sort of a metaphor for where their characters are left when the film ends. So happy ending for them until hopefully we meet them again.

Hi: I'm someone who has actually seen every episode of this show and both movies. My personal opinions on how CC chose to end IWTB, y'all are morons who insist that William is dead, unaccounted for or "blah blah they just got rid of him & are now living peacefully." I LOVE this scene.

It makes me sad though because I read in various places that it was added as a gift to the fans and represents David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson waiving to the fans, not Mulder & Scully.

I want to believe it was actually Mulder & Scully :)

With the way this movie ends. Can't help but wonder what Chris Carter has planned for Mulder and Skully in the future. If they're meant for a happy ending stop colinization or if their ending will be just absolutely devestating
