Lowell George was a Howlin Wolf fanatic. Wolf first popularized the song which was written in 1929 by Roosevelt Sykes. When Lowell George finally got to meet his idol, back stage at a concert, he presented him with his new Stratocaster guitar and said "Man, play my guitar !!"
Wolf just looked at him and said "F... Off !!"

"So, I walk backstage, and there he was, Chester Burnett, the inventor of Rock and Roll. I had a brand new Stratocaster with me, and I hold it up to him, and say, 'Man! Play my guitar.' He turns around and says, 'Fuck off.'" - Lowell George on meeting Howlin' Wolf
I do know that Ry Cooder played on the Feat's first recording of this song and the vocals sound just like Captain Beefheart, one of Cooders former bandmates.
I believe Chester Burnett aka Howlin' Wolf wrote this song. The relevance to Little feat is that Lowell George loved Howlin' Wolf. Many bootlegs have Lowell discussing how he ascribes Wolf with inventing Rock n' Roll. In addition he has told of a story when he met his idol and showed him a new guitar he bought and how Wolf was his hero. Wolf told him to f**k off! Little Feat recorded a medley of Howlin' Wolf songs on their first LP, entitled Little Feat.
@rayoll Man, this feel just got right under your radar, didn't it? Nothin' personal, but I think you might check your roots again..
