Actually I thought the message of the book and movie were more 'Pro-Religion' and assertive of God's existence.
Dust=God (Source of the Dust)
Magisterium=Atheists (denying dust)
'Little Cut'='Telling kids there's no God' (thereby cutting off 'dust' from the children)
The parallels are even more telling when we compare it to real life; "Does the Catholic Church have bases in the Antarctic? no, but there are SCIENCE facilities!"
It was ironically screaming "God Exists"!

i really think something creative shouldnt be judged by a friggin church... its imaginitive, creative and fantasy based. So sick of good movies getting shelved because the church has a problem with it....screw em, bring it out anyway. If i made a movie and the church told me it wasnt going to be released, i would probably introduce them to the middle finger, and punch em in the face lol

The decision was made to remove "the bridge" from GC and instead use it as part of the opening to the SK movie.
There was a planned director's cut DVD, but I doubt it will happen until New Line finally confirm there will not be a second movie. If they do make the Subtle Knife it'll be included in that, which as far as I can tell makes it win/win situation...
Not really. They changed about everything. The master wasnt the one who poisoned Asriel, Iofer's(forgot how to spell it)name was changed to Ragnar, they switched around the Svalbard scene and the Bolvanger scene, and worst of all they cut off the ending. They did not stay good to the book, they changed EVERYTHING. I like the book the way it is. Hopefully, the rumor about The subtle knife coming out this year is true, and this time they actualy stay true to the book.

Let's face it New Line made a complete Mess of the first book. They turned it into a feel good movie and the book is dark and sinister in many parts...especially the ending which New Line completely ignored.
When you change a book as much as they did I wonder why you ever think of making it in the first place.
And all the light weight American 'so called Christians'getting upst about the books...their faith must be pretty paper thin to let a work of fiction shake it so easily!
