The more I watch this the more I admire it. She REALLY nailed it... not only was this the hardest free skate, technically, it was also (as usual) the best choreographed and emotionally rewarding. The others just weren't even in the same league, frankly.

I agree with you!! Skating is not what it once was thanks to the IJS!!!

The wonderful thing is that she could skate cleanily under pressure: today, because of the new judging system, skaters care just about landing jumps and obtaining points and not about the whole program which is a thing I really miss...

the 5.6s she got make me grateful that skating got a new scoring system.
-
lots of speed in this program the camera's couldn't even keep up.

i really hate the music in this one but great performance.

@anubethc45 I think allengland was that streaker at 2004 Worlds--LOL!

@grafgirl27 Michelle Kwan's jumps, speed, spins (love her leg position in her layback), spirals (that backwards charlotte without her holding on to her leg for support was very difficult) and footwork were very good. I also found her choreography great and interesting. I understand that they had to leave room for the other skaters (since she was first in that group), but I still feel that 5.6s were too low for this performance. I would have given her a 5.8/5.9 (5.9/6.0 if she skated latter).

@grafgirl27 Let me elaborate my feelings so there's no more confusion about this topic.... I understood that Irina had to beat Maria in the LP for Michelle to win (since Kwan was in 3rd after the SP). I know all about the placements here. I stated that Kwan should have beaten them in the LONG PROGRAM even if they were clean with their jumps. I FEEL that Kwan's best is superior to Maria and Irina's best. Got that? Both of their programs here were mediocre at best here....

@grafgirl27 I have the understanding of differing perspectives. I don't make these off-the-cuff statements like you do. People can disagree with me and I'm fine with that. Take care.
10 years later and this program would still win a world championship
