The members of the Bulgarian agricultural cooperative ACPS Sokol own land too small to be profitable individually, so merged their land and created the group to be economically competitive. In 2010 Oikocredit, one of the world's largest private investor in cooperatives, fair trade and microfinance, approved an eighth loan of EUR 250,000 to Sokol to buy farming machinery. Sokol now has 23 permanent employees, 33 seasonal workers and offers its members rent for their land that is among the highest in the country. The cooperative was nominated for The Best Co-op of the Year in 2005 and again in 2009.
