The Mississippi-based blues professor, Adam Gussow, shows you how to play big octaves at the top end of a diatonic harmonica.

  • So glad you're still teaching Adam! You want to do a lesson on blow bending sometime? I suck at blow bends... I've searched but haven't found much help, at least not from anyone who teaches as will as you do sir! Thanks for all you've done.

  • you almost said the s word.

  • why are you in a car? making a vid while your wife goes gets groceries? hahahaha

  • ok my issue with the high octav is there is a note i cant find

    (2) (3) 4 (4b) (4) (5) 6 6o 7 [what is this note] (8) (9) 9

  • may The Blues God Bless you, thanks!

  • I feel like those blocked combinations, esp 5-8, are a base for that "Nawlins" acordian sound, bayou blues style. A lot of directions you can go from there both in rhythm and solo.

  • Awesome tone, love your videos.. always inspire me when I need it.

  • Gussow is terrific. He has a great way of teaching and communicating his talent to those of us wanting to listen and learn. Practice, practice and more practice....

  • I think i got this figured out...a "walking" base line, notes for a I IV V in key of G:

    I: G B D E F E D B

    IV: C E G A Bb A G E

    V: D Gb A B C B A Gb (but not usually played like this)

Which if "octavized" (octavated?) is like this:

    I: 3-6 blow, 3-7draw, 4-8draw, 5-8blow, 5-9draw and go back down last 3,

    IV: 4-7blow, 5-8blow, 3-6blow, 6-10draw, 3-6draw (B7th?), go down 3 again

V: play first four notes? 4-8D, 6-9B?, 6-10D, and then the B note?

    (disclaimer: "self-taught")

  • It's high F in the beginning.
