The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Soundtrack - 11. Shelob's Lair

Shelob is a massive spider creature that devours everything in her path. Gollum leads Frodo to her cave and there he must flee from her. After a time, he is captured by her and she poisons Frodo.

The song is quite terrifying, especially in the context of the film. Frodo is able to use the light of Galadriel to hold Shelob back for a while, but is ultimately captured. The song maintains a sorrowful and dark tone throughout the seen. It also makes good use of the string instruments to create the chase music and Sam's battle with Shelob. The brooding music makes for a very effective track, with highs and lows at the appropriate points, corresponding to the events in the movie.
