  • why dont you want bubbles in between?

  • @SPARTAN3163

The sonar signal can't travel through air.

the air bubbles will completely block or mess with the sonar signal.

  • This can happen if there's an air gap or bubbles between the trans and hull.

You'll have to take the trans out and clean both surfaces well and then reinstall making sure not to get bubbles in the sealant. (don't rock it back and forth)

Make sure it's not an equipment problem, by holding the trans over the side of the kayak and checking for correct depth reading.

It's a pain, but will give you piece of mind when re-installing it! 8-)

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks for the input!

  • I am not sure where you live, but here in Texas with the heat melts the silicone. I went to marine goop. Good video by the way.

  • @signmanification Thanks for the tip for the southerners!

I live in northern Idaho now (just moved from northern MN) and don't have to worry about extreme heat nearly as much as the extreme cold!

I do try to keep my kayak out of the direct sun when not in use, but there are plenty of times when it sits on top of the car for quite awhile in the sun. Just can't be helped sometime I guess!

Thanks a lot for the input!
