Joseph Calleja as the Duke in "Rigoletto" by Verdi..... Welsh National Opera, 2002. This was the first time I'd heard Joseph's voice and I felt instantly that he was destined for greatness. How wonderfully he has matured over time......Bravo, Joseph!

  • i think he need to work in his fiato technique

  • a joy to listen to this voice

  • @rexxcarz not argually, he IS without a shadow of a doubt!

  • I hear a hint of Caruso's style and a LOT of Pavarotti's! Joseph is, arguably, the best tenor today.

  • Never tired of hearing the great, glorious and golden voice of the young Maltese tenor JOSEPH CALLEJA. He's superb and luckily has still a long way to go. Good luck to all opera lovers regaled by JOSEPH'S marvellous singing!

  • solo un po di fraseggio pulito..........ci manca....ma è Bravo.

  • @ozhilarion Thanks, I agree with most of the above. I would also add personality type & emotional empathy with particulayr vowel colours. Very few voices have timbres identical to the true natural timbre of the laryngeal physiology. Most apply an artificial colour of some form either on individual vowels & notes, or even throughout the range. It is this imposition that hinders vocal progress & range!

  • I'd say that true colour are a combination of vocal cord length and thickness, the size of the resonating chambers of the chest and pharynx, and of course the degree of subglottic air pressure. I agree that there should be little difference in vibrato rates between voice types. I agree that wobbles occur if there is too much pushing and not enough true connection of breath from the deep andominal / pelvic muscles ( such an etherial concept i know!!)

  • Actually me too...my partner is actually jealous of him although he loves him too. I just saw him in Hoffmann and he is also very hot on stage if you like bears.. :) :) :)
