When it comes ot the Mystery Guest, the guest hopes to lose badly, proving their popularity. Gale Storm's current show, Oh Susanna, wasn't a big hit but My Little Margie was one of the big sitcoms of early TV. It was done on film, so it ran over and over as a daytime syndicated show for years, even before I Love Lucy. And Storm had hit records I Hear You Knocking and Dark Star. I feel sorry for her that they didn't know her even after she discussed her sponsor.
Gale Storm was as much of a sweetheart off camera as she was on. I was thrilled to finally exchange a series of warm, honest, heratfelt letters with her over the last couple years of her life. Most of her story is captured in her autobiography, "I Ain't Down Yet."
There were many other wonderful TV shows at the time of My Little Margie (early/mid 1950s) that are gone forever due to lack of interest and disappearance of any kinescope or other recordings. A shame.
What a talented and beautiful lady the late great Gale Storm was. And a fine singer too! She was just marvelous on "My Little Margie", even being willing to take an old-fashioned spanking from her TV "dad" Charles Farrell on the show. What extraordinary comedic skills she had! How sad that she's no longer with us. But THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us. And HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you & yours! :)
It featured a lady wrestler, a British male model and Gale Storm.
In 1957 - 1958, director Franklin Heller tried / experimented with / liked to do (take your pick) camera sweeps down the panel with their name plates in focus. ( 5:17 ) ( 5:38 ) ( 6:30 ) may be the first time (certainly one of the first times) that he direct the camera operator to move the camera down the panel this way.
Good girl Margie -- she plugged her show and sponsor!
