FALMOUTH, MA- Two electricians said they did not hesitate Tuesday afternoon when they suddenly came across the scene of a sport utility vehicle crashed head-on into a tree in West Falmouth and on fire.
Speaking this morning publicly for the first time, the two described how one of them pulled the driver, who was on fire, out of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. After dousing the fire on the man's legs, and once the police and fire personnel arrived on the scene, the pair quietly left the scene and went to their next job.

Man suffers burns in West Falmouth crash The injured 39-year-old man was airlifted yesterday to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with severe burns, Falmouth Fire Lt. Scott Thrasher said. Two female passengers in the car, ages 19 and 25, escaped the flames but were taken to Falmouth Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, fire officials said.
In an interview with the Times near the Route 28 crash scene, Andrew Roberts, 42, of Buzzards Bay, and Robert Bennett, 53, of Monument Beach - both of whom work for John Maurer Plumbing in Cataumet - said they were driving from a job in North Falmouth when they came upon the crash scene with the burning SUV.
Roberts, an apprentice electrician who was a passenger in their truck, jumped out as Bennett, the driver, phoned 911. One female passenger was already out of the SUV and Roberts helped another passenger out of the Jeep by opening the rear passenger door.
The driver of the SUV, who was moving, was still in the front driver's seat. Roberts pulled the man into the back seat and then out of the SUV.
The man staggered forward out of the car, his pant legs on fire. Roberts grabbed a coat and started to beat the flames out. Bennett, a master electrician, grabbed two jugs of water and started pouring water on the victim's legs.
Once about a dozen police and fire personnel arrived on the scene, the pair decided to leave the situation to the experts and left the scene.
The SUV had crossed over a median at the Sippewissett Road exit and smashed into a tree, the fire officials said yesterday. The fuel tank ruptured and the vehicle burst into flames.
