The Wild Geese is a British 1978 film about a group of mercenaries in Africa. It stars Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris and Hardy Krüger. The film was the result of a long-held ambition of its producer Euan Lloyd to make an all-star adventure film similar to The Guns of Navarone or Where Eagles Dare.

The film was based on an unpublished novel titled The Thin White Line by Daniel Carney. The film was re-named The Wild Geese after a 17th-century Irish mercenary army (see Flight of the Wild Geese). Carney's novel was subsequently published under that title by Corgi Books.

The novel was based upon rumours and speculation following the 1968 landing of a mysterious aeroplane in Rhodesia, which was said to have been loaded with mercenaries and "an African President" believed to have been a dying Moise Tshombe.

  • I liked the way they treat the gay nurse.

  • My dad always talked about this movie, almost got sick of hearing the same, but when I saw it the first time, I really loved it. Thank you again Signore Sergio.

  • Sergio thanks a million for posting this movie, shows your good taste for real cinema, thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Assolutamente unico nel panorama dei film di guerra, non il solito polpettone ambientato contro i soliti tedeschi o nel miglior dei casi in un conflitto riconosciuto, ma un girato che è una guerra ambientata nello stesso periodo storico del film.

Absolutely unique in the war movie, not the usual meatloaf set against the usual German or in the best cases recognized in a conflict, but a shot that is a war set in the same historical period of the film.

  • Financial Status : wiped out.....cannot afford a haircut sir....ha ha ha

  • @MrRobertJameson

About Peter Hain he did it just for publicity and to get some more vote dusing a time that he was seeking more power in UK.....probably toaday for a movie like this he was going to get an icecream......during the 70s everything was left or right red o black comunism or fascism without having any kind of idea of what they were talking about.....second point...do you believe in any politician? because I dont...ciao and enjoy my movies....
