@lovesGenet I completely agree this work has a much more germanic feel than most of Chopin's music, and the influence of Beethoven is very much heard!

there is so much philosophy ion this piece. The march is so well scored in four voices.I never get enough of this piece up there with 1st&4th ballade. She has made a great many decisions here. She really makes it seem allone big statement.Chopin didnot idolize Beethoven supposedly but Beethoven structure ,pfofundity is allthrough this work moreso than the sonata s i think. His great masterpiece this is.

Very much like a journey.

I have never been a great fan of the Fantasie. I find it weak structurally with far too much repeated material. Lee plays it very well, but it doesn't seem to hold together structurally. This work is very difficult to hold together with all the different sections and tempo changes.

as I stated before, Zimerman's playing of Op.49 did not impress (or inspire) me as much. Even in the opening theme, there are notable differences between Colleen's and Zimerman's playings. Zimerman is slower (especially the CD version), more staccato in places, and have a heavy feel. There are also differences in dynamics, tempos, phrasings, and expressions in the rest of their performances that make them unique.

Yes, I would also bet that she had listened to Zimerman and many other performers' CDs. After my last message, I've learned that she has been a fan of Zimerman, and she has a wall of CDs built over the years in her home in Hong Kong initially started out by her parents. But to me, her performances are quite different from Zimerman's. I also have his CD recording of Chopin's Op.49, and I've watched his video on Youtube from Sissco. His playings of the Chopin Ballades are very dramatic. But...
well...I think you are wrong... her ring was a present from her former teacher--Prof. Eleanor Wong... She cherrished this ring so much because she had been studying with Wong for almost 16 years...
