The H-13 Sioux is a two-bladed, single engine, light helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter. Based on the third Model 30 prototype, Bell's first helicopter designed by Arthur M. Young, the Bell 47 became the first helicopter certified for civilian use on 8 March 1946.[1][2] More than 5,600 Bell 47 aircraft were produced, including aircraft produced under license by Agusta in Italy, Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Japan, and Westland Aircraft in the United Kingdom.

  • I remember an article in SOF from 1989 by one of the first generation scout chopper pilots recounting his adventures in the OH-13 in Nam. His outfit flew in the Ia Drang engagement in 1965 and he stated baldly that the teeny green spidery bubble chopper was superior in the scout capacity to the famous OH-6 "loach" that succeeded it, because it was so much harder for the enemy to see and hit. He wrote about flying UNDER the upper-layer tree canopy and tossing grenades in NVA trenches.

  • The original awesomecopter.
