Phenom II 555 BE cpu unboxing video - What's in the box

Phenom II 555 aswell the other 1-3 core AMD Phenom II cpus (sempron 140 also included) have become very known, mostly among a bit advanced users - due to their core unlockabilities. Like from 555 for example, it's fairly easy to get 2 hidden cores activated. You only need a motherboard with ACC function, and luck of your own. :P

  • Btw, I had one AMD Athlon X3 435, bought it just for random fun. And I was amazed, got full 6Mb cache and it unlocked! 100% stable, running in my friend's computer now at 3,8ghz :P

Only minus so to say, was the stepping, C2 you know... C3 is whole different story. :')

ps. Glad I can help you out. :b

  • So should I unlock it or not, there are so many arguments whether those cores are locked for a reason or not.. I'm just not sure if I want to take the chance.

All that speculation is useless and frustrating. Only sissygirls don't unlock, imo :D . I have had 5pcs of 555 BE chips and kicked everyone to around 4,15GHz @ air, when unlocked. These cpus rock hard.

I've sold all those cpus long time ago (during the release). And they all are still kicking like a real quad core.

Only reason why some are locked, is demand what ppl want to buy. Cheaper to make all cpus on the same line in factory, instead of building a new manufacturing line

  • @r1ch4rdg3r3 yes, locked cores are for the demand that are feed by the fact that x2 phenoms unlock.

however, not all have good cores but rather the defective ones. Don't forget the main reason why the other cores are locked.

Just consider that the very stable cores unlocked as being very lucky.

    otherwise:

    >system freeze

    >no system boot

    >bsod (by improper hardware config. Unlocked defective cores ,that would be otherwise locked, process data incorrectly

  • @r1ch4rdg3r3 i could only unlock the 3rd core because my comp would always freeze with the 4th unlocked. so mine is x3 @ 4ghz so it's like having the 4th unlocked lol.

And, this is not the first time some component can be modified hard. AMD did it before too, year 2003 with 1400-1600MHz Duron CPUs... it was _very_ easy to unlock full 256k L2-cache. And when you booted it was indentified as Athlon XP :P Durons' had only 64k of L2-cache. And these were about 43euros (1400MHz model). Actually, I still have the chip running, it was mostly 2380MHz @ liquid 24/7 usage. I tested it on liquid up to 2560MHz too. That was one hell of a chip earlier on:)
