Hélio Gracie (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈɛliu ˈɡɾejsi]; October 1, 1913 -- January 29, 2009) was a Brazilian martial artist who, together with his brother Carlos Gracie, founded the martial art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, known internationally as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).[1] Until his death, Gracie was the only living 10th degree grand master of that system, and is widely considered as one of the first sports heroes in Brazilian history; he was named Black Belt magazine's Man of the Year in 1997.[2] He was the father of the world-renowned fighters Rickson Gracie, Royler Gracie, Royce Gracie, Relson Gracie, and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Co-founder Rorion Gracie. According to one of his most notable opponents, Masahiko Kimura, Gracie held the rank of 6th dan in judo.[3][4][a]

Masahiko Kimura (木村 政彦 Kimura Masahiko?, September 10, 1917 -- April 18, 1993) was a Japanese judoka (Judo practitioner) who is widely considered one of the greatest judoka of all time.[1][2][3] Kimura (5 ft 7in 170 cm; 85 kg, 187 lb) was born on September 10, 1917 in Kumamoto, Japan. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the reverse ude-garami arm lock is often called the "Kimura", due to his famous victory over Gracie Jiu-Jitsu co-creator Hélio Gracie.

Kimura was smaller than Helio in fact, and had at most 10 kilos advantage, that history that kimura was giant 1,90cm and 40 kilos heavier is pure Rorion Gracie Bulshit, Helio lost got toyed around, Kimura was way better than Helio, its not about the art it is all about the fighter.

  • @pkjdm Thats correct, actually I read that Kimura himself had said that he was only 11pounds as in 5 kg heavier than Helio,Gracies have always been bad losers,Kimura was just a much much better fighter

  • Gyaku Ude Garami, very dangerous move. Much respect to Kimura and Gracie. RIP. Roll in Peace.

  • I'm confused, is this an attempt to discount or discredit the skill of Helio Gracie? Kimura, at this point, should have been a far more obviously dominant grappler. He was a far bigger man than Helio, with far more experience, Kiumnura admitted himself he didn;t expect that big of a fight from Helio.
