The opening to my 'Deep Cut' version of Blade Runner, a re-envisioning of the film as a tighter, more narrative focused police procedural.

You can download the edit here:
http://deepstructure.net/blade (1.7gb)

You can read more about the edit and why I did it on my blog: http://deep-structure.blogspot.com/2009/11/blade-runner-deep-cut.html

You can read critical reviews of the edit at FanEdit here:
http://fanedit.org/7880

Some changes you may notice:
1) Removed "Main Titles" score and replaced it with "End Titles" score.
2) Removed opening credits (they've been moved to the end of the film in my edit)
3) Removed opening scrawl and date card
4) Shortened city-scape sequence
5) Quicker intro into the Leon VK sequence.

These are just a few of the many changes that I've made which bring the total running time of the film down to 1 hour and 8 minutes.

  • Dude cant download it, re upload torrent

  • @metronum check the description - added a download link.

  • Ok, interested in seeing seeing more of your cut.

i think the pace of film necessitates a slow graceful ark of movement and imagery. It's not designed to be an mtv video. They painstaikingly set the tone of the film with the first minute of slow rythmic scenery. But us fans are always welcome to new interpretation so go for it and post more.

  • @chaucer44 I've added a download link to the description if you want to check it out.

  • Not sure why you would want to disrupt the majesty of the opening sequence.

  • I'm not going to thumb this either way, because what you have here is a boiled down made for TV version of BR if it was made in to a TeleDrama. Which is not too bad, but calling it a new opening for the film, is rather taking away what the film was expositing in the 1st place for that entire opening sequence.

  • @MentleMedia I agree looks really cool but thinking of living there pratically and nah I mean massive skyscrapers ect fine but how we view modern living today so say an environmental blade runner city with that style but clean then I'd say yes.

  • The pacing is off

  • @MentleMedia Yeah, like I said, awesome.

  • @MentleMedia i would disagree that the shots intentionally convey that information (i believe most specific symbolism in film is extracted by the viewer, not installed by the creator), but regardless, i have two objections to this type of argument: 1) subtext - assuming it's intentional, you're still describing the underlying messages of the film - subtext shouldn't be front and center. 2) there's so much of it in this film, taking some out isn't going to hurt that aspect of it.

  • @fookfocketyfookfook The awesome way LA looked? I'm sorry but the city was decaying, full of pollution and chaos. Tyrell's extremely glorious buildings were trying to indicate the huge gap between the rich and the poor, and the poverty that is caused by this domination of industries.

  • @deepstructure The long shots of the city serve an important purpose. The intention is to give the viewer a full look of the futuristic world. there are many concepts and themes that this brings about. Like the domination of corporations over the common person. The pollution that has eliminated most animal life on the planet. The extreme gap between the wealthy, Tyrell, and the rest of the city. The blend of world cultures. I'm sure I am forgetting some things. The details add more depth imo.
