-I do not own these graphics: they come frome Reiner's Tilesets http://www.reinerstilesets.de/
-The Original idea of this game comes from Jonathan Harbour's book visual basic game programming for teens
http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Basic-Game-Programming-Teens/dp/1435458109/ref=s...
-the sprite sheets where created using atlas sheet creator
http://www.nanaimostudio.com/blog/2009/3/20/sprite-sheet-creator.html
-the image's transparency was made with GIMP 2

FEATURES:
-This game is entirely written in java using the eclipse ide and jdk 1.6
-the levels are loaded from a text file and are easy to modify
-the sprites are loaded from a sprite sheet
-the engine has a border manager(for collision detection)
-the collision detection is handled automatically(directly from the txt files)
-the engine has a combat system
-the skeletons have basic artificial intelligence
-the screen size/resolution is easily modifiable(by changing 4 variables) and the scrolling is relative to the screen size
-this is a bi-directionnal scrolling game
-both players and ennemis have 8 direction animations
-No external libraries where used:everyone that has java should be able to play it
-The game is tile-based
THE GAME:
-it is called celtic crusader
-it is a replica of the visual basic game from J. Harbour
-I created this game in 4 days
-i could easily add items such as potions that give life now that i have the core engine implemented(If i have time)
-You must kill the skeletons before dying
HOWEVER:
-the code is not optimized(unused variables and timers)

  • UPDATE

I added a file call run.bat to the project so you just need to click on it to start the game

  • The new source code should work

  • I changed the download for one that should work

downoad it again at javathecript . com and try if it works

  • adding a drop table on killing a skeleton would make the game much more fun like give it a chance to drop something badass

  • @Snigglesnock Yes its a great idea, but i posted this game in the early stage of developpement( 4 days after i started) so did not have time to do this :p I will also try to change how the levels load( load them from a mapeditor instead)

see all

  • @andytherunner level.txt and monster.txt are located in the bin/gameengine directory. they contain numbers that indicate the height, the width and the tiles to add on the map. if you find them, maybe the problem is comming from the compiler you use. i used elipse compiler but it dosent work with windows default one. so what you could do is try to redownload to see if level.txt is there or if not i will try to post a version of the game that uses the default java package for the other compilers

  • @jeremyskateboard trying to make the sample work but it seems to be missing monster.txt and level.txt. Could you tell me what those files should contain

  • @jeremyskateboard Thanks! I will look at it later :)

  • @ryanjones56 i included a space between javathescript and com because if not, youtube sends me an error message and i cant post my comment
