It's "Rock Week" at SeaWorld San Diego and the aviculturists at the park's Penguin Encounter are celebrating. What may quite sound silly at first, "Rock Week" is actually one of the most important times of the year.
"Rock Week" is the kick-off to our penguins' breeding season. SeaWorld aviculturists distributed 14 tons of river rocks throughout the Penguin Encounter for three species of penguins (macaroni, gentoo and Adélie) to use to build nests. This corresponds with their natural environment in the Southern Hemisphere where it is becoming summer.
