  • They aren't it is an optical illusion from the frame rate of the camera and the rotor system. It only catches about 1 of every 4 blades going by so it looks like it is barely turning. In reality it is turning about 258 rpm.

  • why not just land,

  • @sunsetreptiles protocalls

  • it is an illusion from camera frame rate. It chatches only 30 frame per second and the speed of rotor is about 250-300 rpm normally, but in this case pilots push it until 320-330 so they are safe because the copter is more reactive. So the camera catches the bades every frame after that the rotor has done 1 turn and little more so it apper like it turn very slowly :)

  • @sunsetreptiles theyre only taking fuel on when over the side of the ship. this allows them to run the fuel at a higher pressure since there is no risk of spilling on the deck

  • @sunsetreptiles because that wouldnt be very cool to land only to take off again ;p!

and in rough seas landing can be close to impossible, so this can be very useful :)

  • With looks only a mother could love..

  • the shutter speed makes it look as if its not moving at all

  • the rotors are moving so slowly-how does it manage to stay afloat?
